More rains predicted in coming weeks

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) has cautioned Ghanaians to expect more rains in the coming weeks.

The warning comes after a heavy overnight rain in parts of Accra on June 9, 2020 left in its trail scenes of devastation particularly at Adabraka in the Klottey Korley constituency.

In an interview with Accra based radio station, Joy FM a few hours after the downpour, a Meteorologist at GMA, Felicity Ahafianyo said the agency was expecting more rains across the country.

She said “For the season, we are saying that those of us along the coast, we are likely to get the accumulated rainfall for the period to be more than 300mm, then we should have a storm-plus to what we had today. and some areas started last night.”

She said Ghanaians should expect more floods if there is a continuous downpour. Meanwile, the agency says rainfall and windy conditions of varying intensities are expected over Northeast, Northern, Oti, Bono, Upper West, Eastern, Volta, and Ashanti Region.

The GMA named Yendi, Dambai, Banda, Bimbila, Chereponi, Gambaga, Garu, Walewale, Karaga and Tamale as areas to be affected by the rain.

The rest are Yeji, Kintampo, Buipe, Funsi, Wa, Yala, Sawla, Damongo, Kete Krachi, Addo Nkwanta, Kwame Danso, Atebubu, Wenchi, Ho, Koforidua, Kumasi and Nkawkaw.
