MOBILE MONEY FINTECH LTD ENGAGES MOBILE MONEY AGENTS AND STAKEHOLDERS TO BOOST BUSINESS GROWTH

Mobilemoney Fintech LTD has organised a sensitisation programme for its Mobile Money (MoMo) agents and key stakeholders in the Northern Region to strengthen business operations, improve customer service, combat fraud and promote the sustainable growth of the mobile money ecosystem.
The engagement brought together approximately 200 Mobile Money agents and stakeholders, including traditional leaders, representatives of banks, the police and leaders of agent associations, to discuss challenges confronting the business and explore strategies to improve service delivery and protect customers.
In his welcome address, the Area Sales Manager for the Northern Region, Richard Asamane, expressed appreciation to the agents for their dedication, commitment and contributions to the growth of MTN Mobile Money over the years.
He described the agents as the face of the business in communities across the country, noting that their efforts remained central to providing services to customers and expanding the Mobile Money business.
Mr Asamane said the meeting was organised to recognise and appreciate the agents’ hard work, gather feedback on challenges affecting their operations, and update them on new products and services being introduced by MTN Mobile Money.
He encouraged participants to engage in open discussions, share practical suggestions and work collectively towards addressing operational challenges and identifying opportunities for business growth.
According to him, stronger collaboration between MTN and its agents would help improve efficiency, strengthen customer confidence and create a solid foundation for the long-term sustainability of the business.
For his part, the Mobile Money Channel Development Manager for the Northern Regions, David Nana Addai, said the engagement was intended to deepen collaboration between MTN, its agents and other stakeholders to strengthen the mobile money ecosystem.
He said discussions focused on improving business performance and customer service, strengthening support from partner banks, preventing fraud and enhancing the welfare of agents.
Mr Addai cautioned agents against overcharging customers, stressing the importance of maintaining service standards and ensuring that customers received fair and reliable services.
He also highlighted the need for stronger collaboration with partner banks to address operational difficulties faced by agents and improve the overall customer experience.
On fraud prevention, he said efforts were being intensified to protect agents, customers and the business from fraudulent activities within the Mobile Money ecosystem.
Mr Addai further disclosed that MTN was exploring and promoting insurance packages and pension products to improve the welfare of agents, many of whom operate in the informal sector and may lack adequate financial protection for retirement.
He urged agents to familiarise themselves with MTN’s new products, services and innovations to enable them to educate customers and communicate the benefits effectively within their communities.
MTN URGES AGENTS TO UPDATE KYC RECORDS
A key issue discussed at the meeting was the Know Your Customer (KYC) update for Mobile Money agents and merchants, an intervention being undertaken in line with a Bank of Ghana directive.
Mr Addai explained that the exercise was aimed at verifying business records, identifying legitimate agents and merchants, and preventing fraud involving agent and merchant SIM cards that may have been sold, transferred or fallen into the wrong hands.
He encouraged agents and merchants to visit the nearest MTN service centre with their business certificates and Ghana Cards to update their records.
He said field teams and designated agent representatives, known as hotspots, were also available to assist those who might be unable to visit MTN service centres.
According to him, the exercise was scheduled to end at the end of October 2026, with the objective of establishing reliable records and blocking SIM cards that remained unverified or were being used fraudulently.
The sensitisation programme forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader efforts to strengthen stakeholder engagement, improve service delivery, protect the Mobile Money platform against fraud and promote the financial security of agents.
It is also expected to deepen cooperation among MTN, financial institutions, law enforcement agencies, traditional authorities and Mobile Money agents to ensure a safer, more efficient and sustainable mobile money business in Ghana.
