Minority legislators on the Education Committee of Parliament plan to file a private members’ motion to cause a probe into the procurement and distribution of past questions for West African Senior High School Examination candidates, according to Clement Apaak, the Builsa South MP.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, he said the Minority MPs “have been given the green light to file a private members’ motion calling for an investigation into this matter in its entirety.”
The government is said to have spent GHS68 million on past questions for 2020 and 2021 WASSCE candidates.
Mr. Apaak had earlier said his checks indicate that not all schools have received their share of past examination questions and examiners’ reports ahead of the examination, which started on Monday, August 16, 2021.
Over 460,000 past questions were paid for and expected to be distributed.
“Having made the payments, why is it that the 723 public Senior High Schools in Ghana have not all received their complement of the past questions that have already been paid for,” he asked.
For Mr. Apaak, his queries are to ensure that the government is held accountable for the deal which was sole-sourced to Kingdom Books and Stationery.
“It is about the fact that we have spent serious money through a sole-sourced agreement with a particular company and yet that material is not available to all the schools.”
“We have spent GHS 68 million for something that many believe was not really that necessary,” Mr. Apaak added.
