N/R Minister Calls for Collaboration between Government and Journalists

The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu has called on journalists in the Northern Region to work hand in glove with state institutions to address environmental issues.

According to him, journalists need to identify themselves with government institutions as seeking a common goal.
He explained that rallying collaboratively with government institutions for the betterment of citizens should be a target upheld by journalists in society.
The Minister made these statements at the 2023 Northern Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards launch in Tamale.
The awards ceremony which will be under the theme “ Promoting responsible behaviour to protect the environment: The role of the media” is slated for later this year to honour deserving journalists in the area for their contribution towards environmental protection and development.
According to the Northern regional chairman of the GJA, the awards scheme will encompass journalists in the Savannah, Northern and North-East Regions.
Mr. Yakubu Abdul Majeed noted that, the media plays an important role in building a better society hence the need for Journalists particularly those in the North to always update their skills and knowledge to live up to their responsibilities.

He revealed that an awards Committee has been constituted to take charge of the entries and selection of winners and they are confident the team will do a diligent job.
The Regional Minister emphasized the media’s significant role in supporting state institutions to implement their agenda, and therefore reiterated his call on journalists to join forces with government institutions in addressing environmental issues.
“The support of Journalists is required for the desired success, in communicating the right messages and also drawing attention to what is required. We should complement each other to achieve the goal” He said.
He also commended the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) of the region for their tireless efforts towards development and growth in the area.
