Mahama in Antigua for 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Antigua ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), marking his first participation in the high-level gathering since his re-election in December 2024.
The meeting, which brings together leaders of Commonwealth member states, is expected to provide a platform for discussions on issues affecting the organisation and opportunities for strengthening cooperation among member countries.
The 2026 summit, convened by King Charles III, will focus on strengthening partnerships, mobilising investment and promoting shared prosperity across the Commonwealth.
President Mahama’s participation is expected to offer Ghana an opportunity to engage with other member states on issues of mutual interest, particularly economic cooperation, investment mobilisation and sustainable development.
The gathering will also bring together heads of government and other senior representatives to deliberate on strategies for addressing common challenges and identifying areas where closer collaboration can deliver meaningful benefits to member countries.
A major focus of the summit will be the need to deepen partnerships and attract investment to support economic growth, improve livelihoods and create opportunities across Commonwealth nations.
For Ghana, the meeting presents an important diplomatic opportunity to strengthen existing relationships, explore new areas of cooperation and advance the country’s interests within the Commonwealth.
President Mahama’s attendance also comes as Ghana seeks to strengthen its international partnerships and attract investment to support its development priorities.
The Commonwealth, a voluntary association of 56 independent countries, provides a platform for member states to cooperate on issues including trade, governance, education, climate change and economic development.
