President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Moscow, Russia, from Ethiopia to participate in the 3rd Russia–Africa Summit, hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for President Mahama to engage with African leaders, hold high-level bilateral discussions with President Putin and explore avenues for strengthening cooperation between Ghana and Russia.
As part of his engagements, President Mahama will participate in the Economic and Humanitarian Forum and the summit’s plenary sessions, where African leaders are expected to deliberate on issues relating to cooperation between Russia and African countries.
The meetings will also provide a platform for discussions on shared development priorities and opportunities for expanding relations between the two sides.
A key part of President Mahama’s visit will be a high-level bilateral meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
The discussions are expected to focus on advancing cooperation between Ghana and Russia, with the visit also providing an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.
President Mahama is also expected to engage Russian businesses and state institutions as part of efforts to identify opportunities for collaboration and promote bilateral cooperation.
These engagements are intended to deepen relations between Ghana and Russia and explore areas of mutual interest involving the public and private sectors.
Beyond the political and economic engagements, President Mahama will attend a Kente exhibition organised by the Russia–Ghana Parliamentary Forum.
The exhibition is expected to showcase Ghana’s cultural heritage through Kente, one of the country’s most recognised traditional textiles.
The event will also provide an opportunity to highlight Ghanaian culture and strengthen cultural connections between the two countries.
During his visit, President Mahama will receive honorary doctorate degrees from two Russian institutions: the Russian University of Transport and Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia.
The honours form part of his engagements in Russia, alongside the summit meetings, bilateral discussions and interactions with Russian businesses and state institutions.
