Leaked Tape: 2 Cops Admit Voices – Bugri Naabu

Superintendent Eric Gyebi, Director of CID Headquarters’ Cybercrime Unit, has done a surprising U-turn in the ongoing parliamentary probe into his alleged involvement in the plot to depose Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Supt. Gyebi denied ever speaking to Bugri Naabu on Supt. George Asare’s phone or interacting in any way with Bugri Naabu about the incident during a public hearing under oath.

Supt. Gyebi admitted before the committee at the in-camera hearing on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, that the claims made by the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are true, and that he spoke with him over the phone.

According to committee sources, Supt. Asare admitted to calling Supt. Gyebi and handing the phone to Bugri Naabu, contradicting Supt. Asare’s prior claim that Bugri Naabu never spoke to Gyebi.

Contrary to what he told the committee, COP (rtd) George Mensah recently stated in a video released to his social media followers declaring his desire to contest the next NPP primaries that he is a card-carrying NPP member.

He is simply a sympathiser, according to the retired police head.

Bugri Naabu, who felt justified after the admissions, spoke to the media after the hearing on Tuesday and stated that all of the officers on the audio had confessed to having had discussion with him before the committee.

He said, “You were all there when they told the committee in public that I’m a liar, but now before the committee they have all, including Gyebi, admitted their voices on the tape.”

“I want to tell you all that as a chief I don’t tell lies. I was in my office and then these people came to say the things they said. I felt it was important for state security and for the NPP government to know what they were doing there so I taped them and went to give the tape to the president,” he added.

He stressed, “Now they have all admitted that it is their voice so I want to clear my name; that I am not a liar. And if they come out to challenge anything now, we will play out what happened in there for all Ghanaians to hear.”
