Lamashe-Naa fumes over police/youth brawl over the weekend

The Chief of Lamashegu, Naa Ziblim Abdulai, has expressed displeasure about the shooting incident that took place in his traditional area on Sunday, February 13, 2022.

He further expressed sadness about the 14 year old Abdul Hakeem who was hit by a stray bullet and subsequently lost his life to that on the unfaithful day.

He was one of at least four persons who sustained varying degrees of injury after angry youth of the area clashed with the police for allegedly shooting a driver at the Lamshegu Chief Palace, Sunday afternoon.

The Lamashegu Chief made this known when the  Regional Security Council (REGSEC) in conjunction with the Metropolitan Security Council (METSEC) visited the chief at his palace under the leadership of the mayor of Tamale, Hon. Sule Salifu.

The purpose of the visit was for the team to extend their appreciation to the chief for the role he played in containing the situation between the police and the youth of the area and to also collect first hand information about the incidence.

In narrating the happenings, the chief noted that one of the police officers who fell off their vehicle would have been lynched by the aggrieved youth if not for his intervention.

He is meanwhile calling for the release of the seven persons arrested and findings of the investigation leading to the attack to be made public.

In his submission, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, condemned the actions of the police who followed up the said driver into the palace describing it as unfortunate.

Mr. Sule Salifu, has however apologized unreservedly to the Chiefs and people of the metropolis for what transpired and assured that an investigation will be conducted into the matter and punitive sanctions taken against the perpetrators.

According to him the IGP has detailed some officers from Accra to investigate the issues that transpired Sunday in the Lamashegu community.

He called on residents to assist the police ascertain the cause and justice served on the said matter.

Meanwhile the rioting youth seems unsatisfied by the intervention of the MCE and the REGSEC members who visited the palace on Monday morning.

They issued threatening statements to express their displeasure about the ongoing dispute.
