Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called for administrative action against the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) officer who was seen attempting to arrest the Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, at the Accra High Court.
Kpebu described the officer’s conduct as unprofessional, arguing that the manner of the attempted arrest could undermine public confidence in EOCO and its investigations.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 23, he urged the leadership of EOCO to distance itself from the incident and ensure that the officer is subjected to the appropriate administrative procedures.
“What she did was unprofessional. This man is not running anywhere,” he said.
Kpebu also questioned the timing of the attempted arrest, stressing that the circumstances could create public suspicion about the reason for the arrest, particularly because Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah had not absconded and could have been engaged through other formal channels.
“The timing itself is very bad; you don’t do that,” Kpebu said.
He further argued that arrests by law enforcement agencies must be conducted professionally and in accordance with established procedures, rather than through what he described as an overzealous approach.
His comments follow a video circulating on social media in which an EOCO officer is seen attempting to prevent the MP from entering his vehicle after a court proceeding. The MP is heard demanding that the officer identify herself as an EOCO official.
However, EOCO has disclosed that the Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, ignored two invitations issued in February 2026 to assist with an ongoing investigation.
