Kofi Adams rejects claims of illegal World Cup ticket sales, promises transparency

Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has firmly rejected allegations that tickets secured for Ghanaian supporters for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are being sold through illegal channels, insisting that the government is not involved in any form of commercial resale.

Speaking on the issue in an interview with Citi News, the minister stressed that public funds are not being used to finance ticket procurement or distribution arrangements linked to the tournament.

“We are not using budgetary allocations, we are not taking money from state coffers to fund or do what it is that we are doing,” he said.

His comments come amid growing public debate and speculation over how tickets allocated for Ghanaian fans will be managed, with concerns raised about transparency and possible profiteering.

Adams sought to reassure the public that safeguards have been introduced to prevent any form of ticket reselling for personal gain. According to him, the system is designed to ensure accountability at every stage of distribution.

“So a lot has been introduced to make sure that nobody will go and resell his or her ticket to make some money out of it. And we will seriously check that,” he explained.

He further emphasised that the process will remain open and subject to scrutiny, adding that the government intends to keep the public fully informed about how the tickets are handled.

“We will make sure that we are transparent. We are open. Everybody will get to know how those tickets have been done,” he added.

The minister’s remarks are part of ongoing efforts to calm concerns and reinforce confidence in Ghana’s preparations for the global football showpiece, which is expected to draw significant attention from supporters across the country.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars will test their readiness for the World Cup with a friendly game against Wales today at the Cardiff City Stadium before wrapping up their preparation on June 10 with a friendly game against Jamaica before shifting their attention to the World Cup, where they will play against Panama, England and Croatia in Group L.

Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field before taking on England six days later, and wrapping up the group phase against Croatia on June 27.
