It’s not Otumfuo’s job to invest in Asante Kotoko – Herbert Mensah

Former Asante Kotoko chairman, Herbert Mensah says it is not the responsibility of His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to invest in the club.

His comment comes following the Porcupine Warriors visit to Manhyia on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. The veteran football administrator was part of the Kotoko delegation that presented the FA Cup trophy to the life patron of the club.

Mensah, who is the president of Ghana Rugby Association left an indelible mark during his spell with the Porcupine Warriors. He served as the chairman of Kotoko from 1999 to 2002, helping the club to lift FA Cup title and missing out on the CAF Winners Cup to Wydad Casablanca.

Making a strong case for Otumfuo, Herbert Mensah stressed that it is the duty of the leadership of the team to invest in the club not the life patron.

“Everywhere you go there is a greatness in Kotoko because of Otumfuo. Too many people have forgotten they think you are playing football but it more than football. You represent the spirit of Asanteman. If you only playing football, you are playing for the wrong team”

“Otumfuo has dreams bigger than you can imagine. When I travel the world, everybody talks about Asante Kotoko and at the same time, they talk about Otumfuo”

“You must back up, be at the World Club championship and bring the glory back. Otumfuo has invested, but it is not Otumfuo’s job to invest in Kotoko rather it is what Kotoko achieve and those who hold it must invest. It is an honour, privilege to hold Kotoko” he said.

Asante Kotoko will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season following their Ghana FA Cup success in the just ended campaign.
