‘It feels amazing to beat the best’ – Antoine Semenyo on Bournemouth’s win over Manchester City

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo described his Man of the Match performance in Bournemouth’s surprise 2-1 win over champions Manchester City as "an amazing feeling."

Semenyo’s excellent goal and another from Evanilson secured Bournemouth’s first-ever victory over City after 22 meetings, breaking a decades-long drought in head-to-head matchups, with the last points taken against them dating back to draws in 1989 and 1999.

Speaking to BBC’s Match of the Day, Semenyo shared his joy: “It feels amazing. The best team in the world. We made it tough for them, and everyone is buzzing with the result. A win is a win. It doesn’t matter if it’s one goal or three; we deserved it.”

The Ghanaian forward also praised teammate Milos Kerkez for his defensive efforts, saying, “His contribution was so good. It was tough for all of us, but he made some important blocks to keep us in the game.”

On Evanilson’s performance, Semenyo remarked, “We see the potential in training. We know it takes time to settle into a new league, but he has done well, and the goals are coming now.”

Looking ahead, Semenyo expressed optimism about Bournemouth’s potential this season: “We have belief. We train hard every day and take it onto the pitch. Everyone is going to write us off, but we know what we can do.”
