Interior Ministry reviews curfew hours in Bawku- 6:00pm to 6:00am

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has reviewed the curfew hours for Bawku Municipality.

This is contained in a press release dated July 30.

“The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has reviewed the curfew hours for Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, effective Thursday, July 31, 2025,” the statement read.

According to the press release, “Government calls on the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them, as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.”

Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, and any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.

The curfew has been necessitated by renewed violence in the area.

The Ghana Armed Forces has deployed personnel to enforce peace to area.

A total of four hundred troops are expected to be deployed in line with government’s efforts to restore peace to Bawku following fresh unrests.

This was disclosed by the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, during a one-day working visit to the Upper East Region on Friday, June 27.

According to General Gbetanu, the army has brought the recent resurgence of violence in Bawku and Binduri under control and is continuing with ongoing peacekeeping and stabilization operations in the areas.
