Injured Inaki Williams ruled out of Ghana’s crucial AFCON qualifiers

Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde has confirmed that Inaki Williams will be unavailable for Ghana’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to a lingering injury.

Williams, who missed Bilbao’s recent 1-1 draw against Valladolid in La Liga, is dealing with an overload in his left hamstring.

Valverde explained that it was best for the forward to remain in Bilbao to recover, ruling him out of the Black Stars’ crucial matches against Angola and Niger this month.

“I don’t think he’ll be able to play this time because he hasn’t been able to be here with us,” Valverde told reporters, emphasizing that Williams needs time to regain full fitness.

Williams has been productive for Bilbao this season, scoring five goals in all competitions, yet his struggles with Ghana persist.

The forward went scoreless during the last international break, in which Ghana lost to Sudan and drew, putting their qualification hopes at risk.

His absence will be felt, as Ghana now requires a strong performance – and possibly a miracle – to secure qualification. The Black Stars face Angola on November 15 and Niger in Accra on November 18.
