The Defense Minister who doubles as Member of Parliament for Bimbila in the northern region, Dominic Nitiwul has said construction firm, Engineers and Planners, allegedly received $12 million dollars mobilization for the construction of Bimbila-Salaga road under the erstwhile John Mahama led National Democratic Congress government and never did any work on the road.
Addressing the Chiefs and People of Bimbila during the second day tour of President Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday (August 9, 2022), the lawmaker said, “You can ask anybody if I am lying, the road Minister is here – am I lying?
“Bimbila-Salaga road was given to Ibrahim Mahama, he chopped the money, and he didn’t even come on the road. After the NDC lost power then he came and did some small work on the Salaga side that he’s covering it and runaway” he stated explicitly.
However, the Bimbila legislator noted in spite of the economic difficulties in the country President Nana Akufo-Addo is developing every village in the municipality.
He revealed over 150 boreholes have been built across the constituency in the past five years of the NPP government, adding 15 of the projects which includes 10 mechanize boreholes are situated in Bimbila town.
“There is no village in this constituency that can say that Mr. President has not got a project there – if it is not a borehole, it is a road, if it is not a road, it is a bridge, if it is not a bridge, it is a school block, if is not a school, it is a clinic, if not a clinic, it is something. There is always something that the President can point at that, I’m doing this for the people of Bimbila” he added.
The outspoken Minister wondered why some people still vote for the NDC in the constituency and challenged the NDC to point out any major project that they have done in Bimbila.
He further urged the populace to reward the efforts of the Akufo-Addo government by voting massively for the NPP in 2024.
“…Because if you don’t and another party, God forbid, comes to power, that party will never give you development. Let politicians know that when you give me development, I will give you my thumb but they don’t give you then you give them; what is the urge for them to give you development. The NDC has done nothing” Mr. Nitiwul said.
