I was rooting for Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer to become GFA president – Kwesi Nyantakyi reveals

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed that he was rooting for Wilfred Osei Kweku Palmer to be voted into office as the new president of the Football Association.

The owner and bankroller of Tema Youth FC contested for the 2019 Ghana FA presidency elections.

However, weeks before the elections, the former Executive Committee member of the Ghana FA was disqualified by the Elections Committee of the Normalization Committee.

Mr Palmer, who was considered as one of the front runners for the top position, failed the integrity test after appearing before the Vetting Committee and was also accused of failing to give the FA a percentage after selling his player.

Speaking to Kumasi-based Lawson FM, Mr Nyantakyi, who formerly served as CAF 1st Vice President and FIFA revealed that Kurt Okraku, who eventually won the elections approached him to help him win the elections.

Despite Mr Okraku’s plea, Nyantakyi revealed that he was rooting for Osei Palmer to be voted as the president of the country’s football governing body.

“A day before the elections, Kurt Okraku called me to help him to win the election so I called the delegates to come to my house for a meeting.

“Out of the 123 delegates, about 60 of them came to my house at night. I spoke to them and they agreed to vote for Kurt Okraku.

“Kurt Okraku did not give me any money and even days before the elections, nobody approached me but before that, I was rooting for Osei Palmer to become the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“I was sad when he was disqualified by the Elections Committee,” he added.

Kurt Okraku is currently serving as his second term in office president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
