GRIDCo apologizes for Monday night’s blackout; promises to restore power
The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has apologized for Monday night’s power outage that affected several areas in the capital, Accra.
The company, in a statement, said the outage was a result of “a conductor falling on a critical equipment within the Achimota Substation.”
GRIDCo’s Head of Public Relations, Albert Kwesi Quainoo in the statement said although power was restored to most areas within two hours after the incident occurred, a few areas are still in darkness.
“Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) announces for the information of the general public that challenges experienced by electricity consumers late last night was as a result of a conductor falling on a critical equipment within the Achimota Substation.
Power to some consumers was restored within two hours of the incident. However some limited customers are still without power as GRIDCo technical staff are on site to bring the equipment back into service.
GRIDCo regrets and apologizes for the inconvenience caused to consumers,” the statement said.
Power Distribution Services (PDS) had earlier informed the public that the intermittent power outage was due to unstable supply from GRIDCo.
Power supply in the country has rarely been consistent in most parts of the country in the past month due to different challenges including recent rainstorms.
