Gov’t bans motorbikes in Binduri after attack on military patrol in Upper East Region

The Ministry of the Interior has imposed an immediate restriction on the use of motorbikes in Binduri Township and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region, following an attack by unknown assailants on a military patrol team in the area.

The directive, signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak and issued on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, applies to all persons within Binduri Township and its environs, with no exceptions stated.

The Ministry described the restriction as a necessary security measure aimed at maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and supporting ongoing security operations in the affected area.

In a statement accompanying the directive, the Ministry appealed for calm and restraint from community leaders and residents.

“Government urges Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, the Youth and all residents of Binduri and surrounding communities to exercise restraint and remain calm,” the statement read.

Residents were further encouraged to use peaceful and lawful channels to address grievances rather than resort to actions that could deepen the security situation. The Ministry made clear that the restriction carries legal consequences for those who defy it.

“Any person who contravenes this directive will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement warned.

The attack on the military patrol team has heightened security concerns in the Binduri area, prompting the swift intervention from the Interior Ministry. Authorities say the measures are intended to support efforts to restore lasting peace in the community.

The Ministry of the Interior reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens across the country.
