The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has assured Parliament that the government remains committed to completing the Bokoro District Hospital project in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region to improve access to quality healthcare services.
Addressing the House on the status of the project on Tuesday, June 16, the Minister revealed that construction of the hospital is currently 86.5 per cent complete.
He noted that the facility has been selected as one of 35 projects earmarked for implementation under the first phase of the government’s Agenda 111 programme.
Mr Akandoh explained that work on the project was suspended in 2024 but indicated that the contractor has since been engaged to remobilise and resume construction activities to ensure its completion.
He further disclosed that the Ministry of Health has submitted outstanding Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) to the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the release of funds needed to settle payments owed to the contractor.
According to the Minister, the government is taking the necessary steps to address funding challenges and accelerate progress on the remaining works so the facility can be completed and operationalised as soon as possible.
The Bokoro District Hospital is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery in the Ahanta West Constituency by providing residents with improved access to essential medical services and reducing the burden on existing health facilities in the area.
Mr Akandoh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system through strategic investments in health infrastructure, adding that the completion of the Bokoro District Hospital remains a priority under ongoing efforts to expand access to quality healthcare across the country.
