Ghanaian clubs should pay players well to stay and make local leagues competitive – Caleb Amankwah
Former Hearts of Oak defender Caleb Amankwah has urged Ghanaian clubs to pay their players well so they stay in Ghana and make the local leagues competitive.
He alluded to the fact that low salaries in Ghana are forcing players to leave the country every year and stated he would not have left if salaries were better.
The former Aduana FC player joined Ethiopian club Commercial Bank FC after leaving Hearts of Oak at the start of 2023.
“If there is money in Ghana, we will stay and play in the Ghana Premier League,” Amankwah said as quoted by Asempa FM, as monitored by footballghana.com.
“If you have a key player and you allow him to leave, what benefit will you get? Which player will the supporter come to the stadium to watch?
“They should give the players the money to stay and play in the Ghana Premier League.”
After the previous season, most teams in Ghana have lost their best players to Rwandan, Tanzanian and North African clubs.
