Ghana Armed Forces warns media against speculative reporting on military helicopter crash

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a press release urging media practitioners, social commentators, and content creators to be circumspect in their reportage concerning the recent Z-9 helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
The appeal comes in the wake of what the GAF describes as “many speculative and unsubstantiated commentaries” regarding the tragic incident that claimed the lives of all eight persons on board.
In the statement, dated August 12, 2025, and issued by Captain V.A. Arhin (Ghana Navy), the Acting Director General of Public Relations, the GAF emphasized that such conjecture is premature and misleading.
“For the sake of the bereaved families and loved ones, the Armed Forces urges media practitioners… to be circumspect in their reportage as a way of according respect to the memories of the fallen heroes and to mitigate the sorrows of the bereaved families,” the release stated.
The GAF’s statement also sought to reassure the public about the ongoing investigation into the crash, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6.
Acknowledging the immense public interest in the accident, the Armed Forces confirmed that “painstaking investigations have begun to unravel the cause of the crash.”
The GAF said it is committed to doing “everything possible including collaborating with international agencies to bring closure to the incident.”
The public was therefore advised to be wary of any purported conclusions based on opinions, perceptions, and conjectures.
The press release also extended gratitude to the Government, various institutions, and private individuals for their support during this difficult time.
