Generous gesture brings cheer to indigenous flood victims in Zebila

Indigenous people and flood victims in Zebila, in the Upper East Region, experienced a brighter festive season thanks to a compassionate donation of essential items.

The beneficiaries, most of whom are victims of the 2023 flood that ravaged hundreds of farmlands of rice and soybean, have received significant support in the form of food items and clothing.

The generous donation, spearheaded by Mr Ben Akparibo, a native of the area, aims to bring joy and solace to those affected by the devastating flood. Hundreds of sacks of rice, cooking oil, clothes, and sardines were distributed, with a special focus on widows among the recipients.

Mr Akparibo, the benefactor behind this thoughtful initiative, shared that the donation was his way of expressing gratitude for the direction and protection he, his family, and his business received from God.

He acknowledged the emotional toll the flood took on the widows, emphasising that the act of helping orphans is a blessing from God. Mr Akparibo highlighted that the significance lies not in the quantity of the items provided but in the genuine intent behind the gift.

In an interview, Mr Akparibo urged the community to remember the vulnerable and weak, particularly widows and orphans. His heartfelt plea emphasised the importance of extending compassion and assistance to those in need, reinforcing the spirit of communal support during festive seasons.

The widows, visibly overjoyed by the timely support, expressed their heartfelt thanks to Mr Akparibo. They conveyed their hope that God would continue to bless him with resources, enabling him to assist others facing similar challenges.

In a broader appeal, Mr Akparibo utilised the occasion to draw attention to the pressing water difficulties faced by the Tonde area. Despite World Vision’s solar borehole installation, the tanks responsible for replenishing water distribution have failed, leaving the Tonde village in desperate need of water. Mr Akparibo called on other organizations to join hands in restoring access to clean water for the community.

The generosity orchestrated by Mr Akparibo not only provides tangible relief to the flood victims in Zebila but also serves as a poignant reminder of the power of communal support during challenging times. As the festive season unfolds, this heartwarming gesture exemplifies the community’s true spirit of giving and unity.
