Free SHS was a ‘game-changer’ for education – Former GES Deputy DG

Former Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, has praised the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, describing its impact on education as “tremendous.”

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV’s Face to Face programme on September 9, Dr. Tandoh commended the initiative, introduced by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for significantly expanding access to secondary education.

“Over the past 8 years, the Free SHS has been a game changer. It has really provided access to education for millions of young men and women.

“It’s quite appropriate that we recognise the persistence of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Free SHS has been tremendous,” he stated.

Dr. Tandoh emphasized that the policy has transformed the educational landscape in Ghana, enabling students from diverse backgrounds to pursue secondary education without financial barriers.
