EXCLUSIVE: Lorient defender Nathaniel Adjei determined to make impact after Black Stars recall
Nathaniel Adjei says he is determined to make the most of his latest opportunity with the Black Stars after earning a recall to Ghana’s squad for the upcoming international friendly against Mexico.

The FC Lorient defender returns to the national team after a difficult period that saw his first appearance for Ghana ended prematurely through injury.
Adjei received his maiden senior call-up during Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger but suffered an ankle injury and was forced off after just 40 minutes.
The injury setback sidelined the defender for almost a full year before he worked his way back to fitness and re-established himself in Lorient’s defence.
His consistent performances in France have now earned him another opportunity with the Black Stars as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“It feels great, honestly. It’s been a long journey, but I stayed focused and kept working hard. I’m happy to be back with the boys and ready to give my best again,” Adjei said in an exclusive interview with GHANAsoccernet.com.
The 23-year-old acknowledged the competition for places in the squad but insists he remains fully focused on impressing the technical team and helping Ghana ahead of the World Cup.
The Black Stars’ friendly against Mexico is scheduled for May 22, with Adjei hoping to impress new coach Carlos Queiroz before the final squad is selected for the World Cup, where Ghana will face Panama, England and Croatia in the group stage.
