Ex-Aduana striker Yahaya Mohammed blames GFA for Black Stars recent struggles
Former Ghanaian international, Yahaya Mohammed has blamed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for Black Stars' recent poor performances.
The senior national team has underperformed in recent games and in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Ghana after four games remain winless after recording two draws and two defeats which leave at the 3rd spot with just two points out of 12 points.
These result mean the Black Stars could miss out on the AFCON tournament for the first time in 20 years.
Speaking in an interview, Mohammed, who is a former Asante Kotoko striker blamed the country’s football governing body for consistently inviting players who do not understand the DNA of the country.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is not doing enough to ensure the Black Stars perform. They invite players from all sorts of places to join the team without knowing how we play. These players don’t know our DNA,” he told Asempa FM.
“Over the weekend, we saw Semenyo against Manchester City and I asked myself, is this same player who plays for Ghana? Thomas Partey mostly play at right back for Arsenal but can he do the same thing for Black Stars?
“All these things fall at the doorstep of the Ghana Football Association because they need to do things right. These players playing abroad always feel they are doing us a favour by playing for us which should not be. They don’t understand that we don’t like to draw as a country and we don’t like defeat but when we lose or draw, they don’t care so the GFA must wake up and ensure these things stop,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ghana will return to international football later this month, aiming to qualify for the 2025 tournament in Morocco against all odds.
They will travel to Luanda to face Angola on November 15, followed by a home match against Niger Republic three days later.
