Consult stakeholders on educational policies – Tiyumba PTA appeals to Gov’t

The parents and teachers association (PTA) of the Tiyumba cluster of schools, have made an appeal to government to hold serious consultation with stakeholders including the PTA, on policies concerning education in the country.

This according to the PTA, will be more productive than a self imposed policy.

This was made known during a general PTA meeting, organized by the Tiyumba M. A annex JHS over the weekend.

In an interview with FiilaNews, the PTA Chairman Engineer Denis K. B Donkor, noted that proceeds from PTA levies have been so helpful in the past years until the introduction of the free education system which is defeating the purpose of the levy.

According to him, there have been a drastic dwindle in the payment of PTA levies which is the internally generated funds the school thieves on.

He revealed that besides the teachers employed by government, the PTA has employed close to 15 staffs to augment governments efforts, who are being paid from the PTA levy.

Ing K. B Donkor  further outlined the importance of the PTA levy indicating that the school have benefited greatly from the levy some of which includes – a 12 unit classroom block, a sick bay, over 2000 furniture, motivational packages for teachers among several others all borne by the PTA.

Unlike any basic school, Ing Denis noted that the school is a PTA sponsored school, which helps the school to thrive both in infrastructure and Academics terms.

He therefore called on parents to find interest in the education of their children and make efforts in paying levies to help run the school.

On her part, the Headmistress of the  Tiyumba M.A annex, Madam GIFTY Opoku acknowledged the good works of the PTA indicating that she is glad to have such a vibrant PTA to work with.

She meanwhile appealed to parents to find interest in the wellbeing of their wards education, and provide them with textbooks needed to complement what is being thought in school.
