Buffer Stock Commences Investigation Into Expired Food at SAVESS

Ghana Buffer Stock Company has commenced investigations into the alleged expired milk served to students of the Savelugu Senior High School in the Northern region.

It would be recalled that students of the School on Sunday embarked on a peaceful demonstration to register their displeasure over meals served them.

The students complained about the food from the school’s kitchen which they say gives them stomach upset whenever they take it.

Some of the students who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity said, “The reason for us demonstrating is that we are being served with expired products especially the milk as you can see the date and our food is not well cooked and this is putting our lives in danger.”

According to the students, the situation is affecting teaching and learning in the school.

They appealed to the government and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to come to their aid.

“We are appealing to the government and GES to come to our aid and provide us with good food for good health for academic performance.”

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana’s Buffer Stock Company, Alhaji Hanan Abdul-Wahab responding to the plea by the students during an interview on Joynews monitored by DGN Online revealed that officials of buffer stock and quality control in the northern region have been tasked to investigate the matter.

“ I have been notified about the Savelugu situation and we have sent our northern regional manager of buffer stock and the quality control officer to go and get first-hand information about the situation.”

He however debunked claims that the expired milk could have been supplied by the buffer stock company.

“ A new company has come and we have had discussions and inspected the quality and expiration date in particular and so it cannot be what we have just supplied a week ago and so we are still doing our investigations.”
