Black Meteors begin strategic preparations for 2028 Olympic Games Qualifiers
The Management Committee of Ghana’s national U-23 team, the Black Meteors, has officially commenced preparations for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games qualifiers as the country targets a return to the global stage after 24 years.

The committee held its maiden strategic planning meeting on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the Ghana Football Association headquarters. The session, chaired by Executive Council member Eugene Nobel Noel, was attended by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, who commended members for their dedication and urged a focused, results-driven approach.
Deliberations covered a wide range of areas, including technical preparation, sponsorship and promotion, friendly matches, and logistics — all aimed at ensuring a smooth qualification process.
The meeting was also attended by Vice Chairman Hon. Fred Agbenyo and committee member Michael Boakye, alongside key GFA staff, including Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe (Head of PR and Strategy), Janice Odonkor (Business Development Manager), and Patrick Akoto (Senior Communications Manager and Media Attache at the Office of the GFA President).
The committee will soon meet with head coach Desmond Ofei and his technical team to align on key objectives and timelines. Ghana’s journey begins with the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September 2026, which serve as the pathway to the Olympics.
The 2028 Games will take place in Los Angeles, USA, from July 14 to 30. Ghana last featured at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.
The GFA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Meteors’ bid to return to the Olympic stage.
