BECE: Two invigilators, teachers fined GH₵3k for examination malpractice

The Twifo Praso District Magistrate Court in the Central Region, presided over by His Worship Cephas Atidzoe, has fined two invigilators and two teachers GH₵3,000 each, in default of which they will serve a one-year jail term, for engaging in examination malpractice during the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at their respective centres.

The convicts are David Kwabena Mensah, Ruth Ampah, Millicent Marfo, and Kennedy Anokye.

According to the prosecution, David Kwabena Mensah was found guilty of leaking examination questions, contrary to Section 4(b) of the West African Examinations Council Act, 2006.

The 38-year-old reportedly used a mobile phone to photograph an examination paper and shared it on WhatsApp.

Ruth Ampah was also found guilty of assisting candidates by dictating answers to them, thereby breaching Section 20(1) of the Criminal Offences Act as well as Sections 6 and 9 of the West African Examinations Council Act, 2006.

Millicent Marfo and Kennedy Anokye were convicted of conspiring to unlawfully possess examination materials, in contravention of Section 23 of the Criminal Offences Act and Section 3 of the West African Examinations Council Act. The two committed the offence at the Twifo Praso Senior High School Examination Centre.

The court convicted all four accused persons based on their own guilty pleas.
