Bawku West Health Directorate supported with medical supplies worth over £400 thousand

A Philanthropist and Former District Chief Executive under the Kufour led administration Dr Desmond Abugbilla has donated some medical supplies including surgical gloves, test kits, ultrasound machines and bicycles numbering worth over £400,000 to the Bawku West Health Directorate.

Speaking to the Media at the donation’s ceremony, Mr. Abugbilla explained that he was able to get the equipment through the benevolence of his friend Dr. Ganihu Abass, a Ghanaian Medical Doctor based in Germany. Dr Abugbilla who now is the Principal Revenue Officer, Customs Division of the GRA, Tema Harbour, noted that the Bawku Health Directorate has for some time now been challenged in terms of accessing medical equipment and supplies to aid in health delivery to patients and people within that enclave.

Therefore, being a native of Zebilla and in the right position to help he mobilise some funds and equipment from donors, he appealed for help to remedy the situation in the District.

“I am a Zebilla man, we are like ambassadors to Zebilla so whatever good thing you think you can bring back home why not? They come, we support them, we talk to them and they are ready to assist, these are just donations we brought to support our people after I spoke with them,” he said.

“This is not the only sector I donate, I have also donated to a different sector precisely education but I can tell you that, District Health Directorate including Regional Health Directorate has been very appreciative and that is very satisfying knowing that what you are appreciated” He added.

Upon receiving the donations, the District Director of Health Dr Lawal Alhassan expressed joy mentioning that, The District has some time now lacked some Health equipment to augment health delivery and therefore it shall go a long way to help District.

“All of the things we will need them very much, I’ve just seen surgical gloves, I think for about a year now we have been struggling to have it and getting it now, it will go a long way to improve on the quality of care we give” He stated.

He added that “ there equally other important things he brought like bicycles which will spread across the District, we have hard-working volunteers and looking at the terrain, our houses are very scattered so when there is a national exercise the volunteers have to work for a very long distance in other to carry out this exercise so when they get these bicycles it will go a long way to beef their movements”.
