Bawku violence escalates: MP Ayariga condemns police shooting

Tensions in Bawku have reached a critical point following a series of violent incidents, including the police shooting of local youth.

Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for the Bawku Central Constituency, has vehemently condemned the police actions while denying any involvement in directing their operations.

I totally condemn the actions of the police in shooting some youth in Bawku today,” Ayariga stated.

He further clarified his role in the escalating situation, asserting, “Also, I have never had any discussion with any police and directed them to allow anyone to attend any market or purchase anything from anyone. Such matters are not my responsibility. They are matters within the purview of law enforcement officers and no decision of a law enforcement officer should be blamed on me because I don’t control them operationally.”

Ayariga urged law enforcement to collaborate with Abugrago Azoka II, the Zugran and overlord of Kusaug, to restore order in the traditional area.

Meanwhile, TV3’s correspondent on the ground reported a severe escalation of violence, confirming the burning of property.
