Bagbin donates food items to Wa Naa ahead of Dumba Festival

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has donated assorted food items to the Waala Traditional Council in support of this year’s Dumba Festival celebrations.

The donation, presented on Thursday, August 27, 2025, by Upper West Regional Minister Charles Lwanga Puozuing on behalf of the Speaker, included 100 bags of rice, 30 gallons of cooking oil, and 20 cartons of tomato paste. The presentation took place at the forecourt of the Wa Naa’s Palace.

Mr. Puozuing, who was accompanied by the Wa Central Constituency Chairman of the NDC, the Regional Chairman of the NDC, members of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and the Wa Municipal Chief Executive, said the gesture was to support the successful organization of the festival scheduled for September 5, 2025.

Receiving the items, Secretary to the Waala Traditional Council, Jinpenhi Naa Kadir Ibrahim, conveyed the gratitude of Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, describing the donation as timely and impactful. He recalled the Speaker’s consistent support for the annual celebration, citing his 2021 donation of a modern public address system to the Palace, which continues to serve the Wa Naa and the wider Upper West Region.

“For anybody to lend their support to His Majesty towards this celebration, there cannot be any better time. His Majesty extends to the Right Honorable Speaker his warmest appreciation for this kind gesture, which has come at such a good time,” Naa Ibrahim said.

He added that food constitutes a significant portion of the festival budget, and the Speaker’s intervention would greatly ease the financial burden on organizers.

The Dumba Festival, the most important traditional celebration of the Waala people, begins on September 5, 2025, and attracts participants from across Ghana and beyond.

Speaker Bagbin was enskinned as Dakagli Naa—meaning “Dependable Pond”—by the Waala Traditional Council on August 28, 2024, in recognition of his unwavering commitment to national development.
