The minority leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Haruna Iddrisu, has called on the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) and all field workers engaged for this year’s population and housing census to do all within their powers to avoid any form of double counting during this census.

According to him the census provides the country with an integrated picture of our society based on changes that has taken place on our country over a period of time.

The minority leader made the  call at his residence in Tamale today Monday June 29, 2021, when he availed himself to be counted for this year’s population census.

As a lawmaker he affirmed the importance of the  census data as being relevant to the development of the country, hence a call on all to participate in the exercise.

The Tamale South Legislator noted that this will give lawmakers a fair idea of the total number of people in the country including their sexual distribution and nationality alike.

He thus called on citizens to partake in this exercise worthy of participation by all, devoid of any resistance.

In an interview with the media the regional statistician, Mr. George Agbenyo indicated the availability of dignitaries to partake in the census is an indication that the data being collected is significant, hence the need for all to participate.

He made an appeal for all to get counted during this census in order to afford Ghanaians with a clear data of citizens and non citizens living in the country.

Individual data collection is the second phase of the population and housing census which officially began after the completion of the structure listing.

Enumerators will make reference to the Census Night, a night that will be used as a day of reference in the collection of these census data.

The exercise is expected to last for two week from 27th June (census night) to the 11 of July 2021.
