240 Electrical Wiring Professionals Certified in Tamale, Women Encouraged to Embrace the Sector

Tamale came alive with pride and excitement as 240 newly Certified Electrical Wiring Professionals and Inspectors, including three outstanding female graduates, were honored in a colorful ceremony organized by the Energy Commission.

The event, held under the theme “Empowering Certified Practitioners: Securing L.I. 2008 Through Professional Authentication,” marked a significant milestone for the electrical profession in Ghana.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the nationwide rollout of the Installation Completion Certificate Mobile APP (ICCAPP), introduced last year. The app has already been used to certify over 102,000 electrical installations nationwide, enhancing transparency and accountability in the sector.

Speaking on behalf of the Director for Electricity and Natural Gas, Mr. John Nilimor of the Energy Commission announced an impressive 81% national pass rate. In Tamale, 240 out of 260 candidates excelled, contributing to the national tally of 18,545 certified electrical wiring professionals and inspectors.

He urged the graduates to uphold integrity and resist dubious practices, while advising the public to engage only certified electricians for the sake of safety and traceability.

A representative from the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Mr. Misbaw, underscored the link between professional standards and public safety. He described the enforcement of L.I. 2008 as both “timely and relevant,” and reaffirmed GSA’s commitment to collaborate with the Energy Commission to safeguard lives and property.

The Ghana National Fire Service, represented by Deputy Fire Commander DOII Mohammed Nashiru on behalf of the Regional Commander, challenged the graduates to become “ambassadors of safety.” He reminded them that substandard electrical work remains a major cause of fire outbreaks and urged strict adherence to safety regulations.

The ceremony’s most inspiring moment came from Konkoli Evelyn, the most outstanding female graduate from the Upper East Region. Expressing gratitude to God for her success, she encouraged young women to pursue careers in electrical engineering. “This profession is no longer a male-dominated field,” she declared, urging girls to seize emerging opportunities in the sector.
