2025 AFCON qualifiers: Lorient defender Nathaniel Adjei to join Black Stars for first time
Nathaniel Adjei, the young Lorient defender who has impressed in France’s Ligue 2, has received a call-up to the Black Stars for the first time.
Adjei, who has shown consistency this season with nine solid appearances, is part of Ghana’s squad for their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
Although he was previously named in the squad earlier this year for friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda, an injury forced him to withdraw.
Now fully recovered, the 22-year-old, originally from Teshie, has finally earned his chance to represent Ghana in competitive matches under head coach Otto Addo.
The Black Stars face a challenging task in the qualifiers. Ghana must secure victories in both matches—first against Angola on November 15 in Luanda, then against Niger three days later.
Even if they succeed, their qualification depends on Sudan’s performance; Sudan would need to lose all their remaining games for Ghana to qualify for AFCON 2025.
Adjei’s addition strengthens Ghana’s defensive lineup, though he will need to work hard to prove himself on the international stage.
