169 Ghanaians deported from US to Ghana since January 2025 – Ablakwa

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that 169 Ghanaians have been deported from the United States to Ghana since January 2025.

He added that 120 Ghanaians are currently awaiting final decisions by the US immigration officials to be deported to the country.

The Minister made the statement while addressing MPs on the floor of the House on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

“169 Ghanaians have been deported to Ghana since January 2025; 90 arrived in Ghana unaccompanied on commercial flight and 66 on chartered control flight supervised by ICE Agents,” the Minister told Parliament,” he stated.

Ablakwa noted that 388 have been in detention since January 2025 on immigration-related charges.

“Of this number, 120 awaiting final decisions by the Board of Immigration Appeals; 49 exhausted all legal processes and await final deportation arrangements,” he added.

The Minister noted that per engagement with the Ghanaian deportees, there has not been any human rights violation.

“So far, our engagements with these deportees, there has not been any evidence of violation of their rights,” he said.

Meanwhile, he has told Parliament that Ghana has not requested monetary or material support from the US for accepting third-country deportees.

“The government of Ghana has not requested any monetary support, logistical support, any material support for this intervention. The understanding is purely on humanitarian grounds,” Ablakwa emphasised.
