Voter registration exercise may increase COVID-19 deaths – Health professionals warn EC

Some health professionals in the country have written an open letter to the Electoral Commission warning of more COVID-19 deaths should a mass voter registration exercise be held.

The health professionals comprising doctors, nurses, laboratory professionals among others insisted that the exercise has the potential of compromising the health of the Ghanaian population hence must be halted.

The workers who are 113 in number further outlined seven reasons why the electoral management body must reverse its decision to go ahead with the registration exercise in the build-up to the 2020 general elections.

Meanwhile in other stories, Ghana has recorded 445 new cases of COVID-19, pushing the national tally to 15,013.

The number of recoveries has also increased by 171, making the total number of recoveries now 11,078.

The death toll remains at 95.

Thus, the active cases as at Wednesday, June 24 is now 3,840.

Regional breakdown of cases indicates that the Greater Accra Region has 8,691,Ashanti Region – 2,915, Western Region – 1,213 with Central Region recoding 798 cases.

Eastern Region has 407, Volta Region – 321, Upper East Region – 271, Oti Region – 105  and Western North Region – 92.

The Northern Region currently has 77 cases, Savannah Region – 38, Bono East and Upper West Regions- 35 cases each.

The Ahafo Region , North East Region and Bono Region have so far recorded single digits cases with 8, 4 and 3 cases respectively.
