NDC MPs want remedial actions taken quickly to assist flood victims in U/W

The Upper West Minority Caucus in parliament is demanding the immediate deployment of the 48 engineers regiment of the military to the Upper West region to create access routes for the resident reeling under the effects of recent floods.

The natural disaster has impaired major trunk routes and bridges in the region.

There have been assurances from the Minister of Roads and Highways to the effect that roads will be fixed.

But addressing the media, Spokesperson of the Caucus, Dr Sebastien Sandaare outlined other practical measures that can be implemented to provide relief for affected residents.

“We here today to highlight the devastation caused by  heavy downpour  on 13th August 2021  and  to call on the relevant state agencies  to act decisively and timely  to ameliorate the difficulties  the situation has brought  to bear on the residents  of the region and beyond.

“Access to markets and business houses in the region has also been affected adversely.

“Furthermore and most importantly the livelihoods of person in the affected communities is greatly threatened as food stuffs livestock and crops have been destroyed as a result of the floods.”

He added “We are calling on the relevant authorities to take the remedial actions.”
