16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence Launched in Northern Ghana

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection has launched the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence campaign in Tamale in the Northern Region.

The launch which took place on Saturday, the 25thof November 2023 at the Tamale Jubilee Park was under the theme:ACTIVISM TO END VOILENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS.

Madam Lariba Zuweira Abudu says the canker of violence against women and girls raises serious concern across the nations stressing that data from the 2016 Domestic violence survey in Ghana shows that approximately,27.7% of Ghanaian women has experienced at least one form of domestic violence.

On his part the Northern Regional Minister, Alhassan Shani Shaibu said an action is needed to stand as a collective voice against the injustices and fear inflicted on women and girls. He emphasized the need to create a society free from discrimination and violence, a society where every person regardless of their gender can live with dignity and security.

Dr. Wilfred Ochan a representative of the United Nations says the 16 days activism is a global advocacy movement to challenge violence against women and girls, adding this year’s observance was significant as the world garbles with increasing act of gender-based violence.
