Crime Alert: Be wary of Carjackers in Tamale- Police to residents

The Northern region police is alerting the public of two cases of carjacking that have been
reported by victims, both involving 4×4 PICK UP vehicles.

According to Police, investigations are under way to identify and arrest the suspects together with their accomplices.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammed Yussif Tanko, the police disclosed that the criminals always target PICK UP vehicles which appear to be in good condition and mostly ambush their victims in front of their gates when entering their homes.

The Police have therefore cautioned the public to wary in order not to fall victim. It however appealed to the public to assist with information that will lead to the arrest of these criminals.

CRIME ALERT
1. The Northern region police is alerting the public of two cases of carjacking that have been
reported by victims, both involving 4×4 PICK UP vehicles. Investigations are under way to
identify and arrest the suspects together with their accomplices.

2. The criminals always target PICK UPs which appear to be in good condition and mostly
ambush their victims in front of their gates when entering their homes, take the vehicles
at gun point. They take victim as hostage in the vehicle and release them at a point where
it is too late to call for assistance.

3. This is a new crime trend in the northern region and police suspicion is that these vehicles
are taken cross the borders to neighboring countries where they are sold. Police is doing
everything possible to arrest the situation and therefore pertinent that the public is made
aware so that potential victims will take necessary precaution. 4. Following precautions are necessary:

a. Watch to make sure you are not being followed on your way home and other
destinations.

b. Scan your environment when approaching home to ensure there is nothing usual or
no strange and suspicious persons are lingering around.

c. Clear bushes around your house where criminals can hide and attack you.

d. Install tracking devices in your vehicles.

e. Brief persons you entrust the vehicle with on the threat pose by criminals and necessary precautions that need to be observed.

f. Be abreast with police emergency numbers and commit same to memory and fall on
them when the need be.
