Walid Regragui not interested in vacant Ghana coaching job

Former Morocco coach Walid Regragui has distanced himself from Ghana's vacant coaching job, sources have confirmed.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is in search of a new head coach following the dismissal of Otto Addo on Monday, 31.

This comes after the Black Stars suffered a 5-1 loss against Austria in Vienna and a 2-1 loss against Germany in a pre-World Cup friendly game during the March international window.

Earlier reports suggested that the Ghana FA has established contact to convince the Moroccan to take over the job.

However, sources have revealed that Regragui, who gained widespread acclaim for guiding Morocco to a historic semi-final finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, has communicated through his agent to the GFA that he has no interest in taking the role.

It has been widely reported that Regragui is in line to replace Hervé Renard, who has left his role as the head coach of Saudi Arabia following their friendly game defeat to Serbia.

His success with Morocco, where he led a disciplined and resilient side to become the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals, has made him one of the most sought-after coaches on the continent.

Meanwhile, Kwesi Appiah, Walid Regragui, Pitso Mosimane, Tom Saintfiet, and Hervé Renard have all been linked to the vacant role.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars will regroup in May and June for their final preparatory games against Mexico and Wales, respectively.

Ghana will face Panama, England and Croatia in Group L when the tournament kicks off on June 11 in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
