Veep charges filmmakers, actors to prioritise depth, quality and professionalism over mere visibility

The Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has underscored the need for strategic investment and professionalism in Africa’s film industry.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA) 2025 in Accra on Saturday, December 13, 2025, she urged film actors particularly the new creatives to prioritise depth, quality and professionalism over mere volubility.
The maiden edition of the Regal Film Festival Awards brought together filmmakers, actors, producers, and creatives from Ghana and across the African continent.
The event celebrated excellence in filmmaking and storytelling.

The Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang who was present at the ceremony commended REFFA for creating a platform that not only recognises talent but also opens pathways for African films to access regional and international markets.
She noted that initiatives such as REFFA plays a critical role in positioning African narratives on global platforms while preserving their cultural authenticity and depth.
The Vice President also emphasized the need for African stories to be told with purpose and excellence to resonate with audiences and compete effectively in global markets.
She called on investors, development partners and industry stakeholders to adopt a long-term perspective on the film industry, emphasising its immense potential to generate employment, strengthen cultural diplomacy, and contribute meaningfully to economic growth.
Professor Jane Naana congratulated all award recipients and participants and expressed optimism about the future of REFFA, describing it as a promising platform for nurturing the next generation of creative talent and elevating African storytelling on the world stage.
The Regal Film Festival and Awards is a pan-African platform which celebrates excellence, innovation, and cultural storytelling in African cinema.
The festival recognized outstanding talents across various categories, featuring film screenings, panel discussions, professional masterclasses, and a Culture Night celebrating African heritage.
