Ghana defender Denis Odoi sees red as Club Brugge misses out on Europa Conference League

Ghana international Denis Odoi was sent off during the UEFA Europa Conference League semifinal second leg game between Club Brugge and Fiorentina on Wednesday.

The Black Stars defender accumulated yellow cards and was given the marching off the field at the Jan Breydelstadion in Belgium.

The experienced Ghanaian defender was handed a starting role in the crucial game but could not finish as his side failed to secure qualification to the finals.

Odoi received his first booking in the 72nd minute mark before receiving his second in injury time.

After succumbing to a 3-2 defeat in the first leg 3-2, Club Brugge were unable to beat Fiorentina in the second leg on home turf to book qualification.

The Belgium club were held to a 1-1 draw as Fiorentina secured a 4-3 aggregate victory and a spot in the final in Athens later this month.

Brugge’s captain, Hans Vanaken, scored in the 20th minute, but Fiorentina equalized through a penalty kick by Lucas Beltran in the 85th minute.

Meanwhile, Alfred Duncan is expected to play the UEFA Europa Conference League final for the second consecutive season.

Duncan came on as a substitute in the 70th minute, replacing Arthur Melo, after sitting out the first leg.

He and his teammates will be determined to go one step further this time and lift the trophy.
