Police, military vow tough measures against criminals during Christmas

The Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service have assured the public of enhanced security measures to guarantee a safe and peaceful festive season.

The two security institutions on Thursday, December 11, 2025, conducted a joint public display of arms and tactical equipment in Accra as part of efforts to demonstrate their readiness to maintain law and order before, during, and after the Christmas period.

Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, said the visibility exercise was intended to boost public confidence and send a clear warning to criminals.

“We want to assure Ghanaians that we are ready to protect them throughout this Christmas and beyond,” he said.

“It is also to send a strong message to criminals that it will be uncomfortable for them to operate, especially within this period.”

Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. General William Agyapong, echoed the commitment of the military, stressing that the festive season requires heightened vigilance from security personnel.

“This is the time we need to up our game more than ever,” he said. “We want you to maintain a very deterring posture and stand on alert for any eventuality.”

The joint security deployment forms part of the national holiday security strategy, which includes intensified patrols, swift response teams, and increased presence in public spaces to ensure citizens celebrate the season in peace and safety.
