This was announced by the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey as part of the party’s reorganization plan.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, January 29, at the party’s headquarters in Accra, he outlined important steps, such as protecting the party’s voter roll to guarantee a smooth election process.

“Then on the final one, which will be the main congress to elect all of the national executives or the NDC in this very important year of our reorganization, that congress will happen on Saturday, the 19th December, 2026,” he said.

The party has directed all government appointees who have interest in contesting as executives of the party either at the constituency, regional or national level to resign at least six months to any of the party’s internal elections.

Categories of persons affected by this directive are; Ministers and deputy ministers, Chief Executive Officers, Managing Directors and deputies, Analogous officers, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

Chairpersons and members of boards are excluded from this directive which was announced as part of efforts to reorganize the party.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey explained that the move is targeted at ending greed and giving equal chances to deserving members.

“Those intending to contest at the constituency level shall resign by April 2026, those intending to contest at the regional level shall resign by May 2026, and those intending to contest at the national level shall resign by June 2026,” he stated.

He added: “It is an issue of reducing the level of greed. If you want to work for the Party, you leave your position in government. You can’t have one leg here, and another there.”
