MTN Ghana Honours Agents and Merchants at Regional Awards Night 2025

MTN Ghana has held a colourful Regional Agent and Merchant Awards Night 2025 to recognise the hard work and dedication of its mobile money agents and merchants across Northern Ghana.

The event brought together participants from five regions — Upper East, Upper West, Savannah, North East and Northern Region — and celebrated outstanding performance in the Mobile Money Limited (MML) space. Several agents and merchants were honoured, with top performers receiving awards including the coveted Best Agent of the Year.

In his welcome address, the Senior Manager for Northern Ghana at MTN, Mr Simon Amoo, said the awards night was organised to appreciate stakeholders, strengthen partnerships and plan for the future.

According to him, the 2025 business year had been very successful for MTN Mobile Money.
“I think generally, business in the MML space has been really good this year.

On all fronts — acquisitions, revenue and transactions — we have seen improvements.
So overall, it’s been a very great year for MML in the space we operate in,” he said.

Mr Amoo explained that agents and merchants remain the backbone of the mobile money business.
“You agree with me that largely, the business really revolves around these people.
Minus them, we will not be able to do anything.

So this event is a way of bringing them together annually to reward them for their hard work,” he noted.
He disclosed that about 180 award winners from the five northern regions were honoured on the night, with most of the rewards given in electronic cash, alongside other appreciation packages.

The Head of Commercial Operations at Mobile Money Limited, Mr Abdullah Razack Ali, also commended agents and merchants for their commitment and partnership with MTN.

He recalled the early days of mobile money when public acceptance was difficult, noting that the agents played a critical role in building trust and driving adoption.

“It was not easy getting people to accept mobile money when it started, but thanks to the agents, they made it what it is today.

This is a testament to how far the business has evolved over the years, and there is more to come,” he said.
Mr Razack Ali congratulated all award winners but encouraged them not to relent.

“2025 is gone and 2026 is here. You need to work even harder to sustain and maintain your awards,” he added.
One of the biggest highlights of the night was the recognition of Mr Stephen Akaguri, operator of Stefan Akobre Enterprise, who emerged as the Overall Best Merchant for 2025.

Mr Akaguri, who travelled from Ngapurungu in the Upper East Region to Tamale for the event, received GH¢15,000 for his outstanding performance.

Recalling his journey, he said perseverance and improved service delivery made the difference.
“Last year we were here, but we didn’t win any award.

This year, we came with full force, improved our services, and with God by our side, we were able to make it,” he said.

Expressing gratitude, he described the award as a major achievement and pledged to work even harder in the coming year.

The MTN Regional Agent and Merchant Awards Night 2025 ended on a high note, reinforcing MTN Ghana’s commitment to recognising excellence and strengthening its partnership with agents and merchants who drive mobile money services across the country.
