Majority caucus calls for annulment of NDC Ayawaso East primary, seeks disqualification over vote-buying

The Majority Caucus in Parliament has called for the immediate annulment of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary held in the Ayawaso East Constituency, following allegations of vote-buying during the exercise.
In a statement dated February 8, 2026, and signed by Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, the caucus said it had taken note of widely circulated allegations of inducement in the just-ended NDC primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
The caucus strongly condemned the alleged conduct, describing it as inconsistent with the party’s stated agenda to reset Ghana’s politics and restore integrity to the democratic process.
According to the statement, after extensive deliberations, both the core and extended leadership of the Majority Caucus resolved to formally communicate its position to the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC.
The caucus is demanding that the Ayawaso East primary be annulled with immediate effect.
It further called for the disqualification of any candidate who participated in the primary and is found to have engaged in vote-buying or other unethical conduct, barring such individuals from contesting in any subsequent primary organised after the annulment.
“The NDC Majority Caucus remains committed to restoring integrity to our politics,” the statement said, emphasising the need for decisive action to deter future electoral misconduct within the party.
