Only 10 Out of over 83 Communities under Sagnarigu ODF

The Sagnarigu Municipality is said to be lagging behind in terms of sanitation issues as only 10 communities out of the over 83 under the municipality is declared Open Deification Free (ODF).

As worrying as the development is, the northern regional minister has over the week launched an operation code named “Clean Northern Region”, a sanitation campaign aimed at ridding all MMDA’s in the region of filth and creating a hygienic, safe and a conducive environment for the improvement of health.

To help achieve the Minister’s aim of nipping the menace in the bud, the Sagnarigu Muncipal assembly has on Wednesday 25, May 2021, engaged stakeholders to collate ideas on how to tackle the issue of sanitation in the municipality and beyond, and also solicit ideas on how to have a successful clean up exercise and deliberate also on its maintenance.

Speaking on behalf of the Sagnarigu municipal chief executive, Mr Al-Hassan Z. Alhassan , the Coordinating Director indicated that  a 5 member sanitation task force has been constituted to come up with roadmaps to achieving the menace on sanitation.


The committee consists of the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, NCCE Rep, Information Service Rep, Nadmo Rep, and a Rep from CRS and Norsac.

In his submission the representative of the Sagnari-Naa, Chief Alhassan Yakubu, the chief of Garizegu, made a passionate appeal to the municipal assembly to bugle up on issues of sanitation .

According to him, sanitation management is nothing to write home about so far ad the Sagnarigu municipal is concerned.

He meanwhile pledged the Sagnarigu-Naa’s commitment in mobilizing his people in the fight against poor sanitation.

On his part the Public Jobs Manager from Zoomlion, Mr. Sulemana Haruna, expressed dissatisfaction about the rate at which individuals during communal labor abscond with their materials which hitherto is meant for the public usage during cleanup exercises.

He noted the support of Zoomlion Ghana in the Minister’s campaign to clean the region at large, but called for a collaborative effort to support their resolve to making northern region the cleanest in Ghana .
