The National House of Chiefs wants political parties and their supporters to refrain from making post-election comments that have the tendency of stirring up trouble in the country.
The House says it is utterly concerned over the rising tensions after the declaration of the December 7, polls.
President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II in a statement said, his outfit has held an emergency meeting with the Standing Committee to discuss election-related matters.
“I have noted with concern comments by political actors during and after the December 7 elections that have a tendency to disturb the peace of the country. I have consequently called an emergency meeting of the Standing Committee of the National House of Chiefs to discuss these and other developments relating to the elections of December 7, 2020.
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, therefore, urged the political actors and their followers to be mindful of their utterances in order for the peace in the country to be continually enjoyed by all.
“In my capacity as the President of the House, I hereby urge all political actors and their parties’ supporters to be circumspect in their comments and desist for acts that amount to incitement of some sections of the public”, he added.
Meanwhile, the National House of Chiefs says the general public will “respectfully hear from the National House of Chiefs in due course”, the statement announced.
The Electoral Commission (EC) announced President Akufo-Addo as the rightful winner of the December 7 polls on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, despite concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
President Akufo-Addo won 6,730,587 (51.302%) of the total votes.
Mr. Mahama came second with 6,213,182 votes representing 47.359%
But the 2020 Presidential Candidate of the opposition NDC John Dramani Mahama, has strongly expressed the party’s unwillingness to accept the outcome of the just ended general elections.
Describing the outcome as the “real stolen verdict,” Mr. Mahama at a press conference on Thursday, December 10, 2020, said the party will audit the outcomes of the poll to inform its next step.
