Interior Ministry settles 2025 rent allowance arrears for Prisons, Fire and Immigration officers

The Ministry of the Interior has announced the release of funds to settle outstanding 2025 rent allowance arrears owed to personnel of the Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Immigration Service.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs and Communications Unit on Monday, March 2, the Ministry said the payment covers all eligible officers across the three services who were affected by the delay.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to personnel for their patience and understanding while the government worked to address the arrears. It acknowledged the concerns raised over the delayed payments and assured officers that steps have been taken to prevent a recurrence.
As part of the reforms, the Ministry disclosed that the rent allowance payment system has now been mechanised to improve efficiency and timeliness.
According to the statement, beginning March 2026, rent allowances will be processed and paid together with officers’ monthly salaries. The new arrangement is expected to eliminate administrative bottlenecks and reduce the risk of future delays.
Officials indicated that the integration of rent allowances into the regular payroll system forms part of broader efforts to strengthen financial management and enhance welfare conditions within the security services under the Ministry’s supervision.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of personnel and pledged to continue working closely with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely payment of all entitlements.
